Activities
The IQAC has applied quality parameters for the various academic and administrative activities of the College.
-
It has organized workshops and seminars on quality-related themes as part of staff enrichment programmes.
-
It documents all the activities of the College and steers the College towards quality enhancement, facilitating the internalization of a quality culture.
-
It prepares and submits the annual Quality Assurance Reports based on the identified quality parameters.
-
To improve the quality of teaching, periodic feedback is also obtained from students apart from periodic review of students in internal tests.
Consequent to the setting up of the IQAC in 2005, a definitive quality improvement in all spheres of institutional activity, especially in teaching, learning and evaluation, is discernable. The process of documentation, planning, feedback and corrective action have become part of the routine, and a culture of quality has been internalized in the functioning of the institution.
The IQAC monitors the quality parameters and ensures that the standards of excellence reflected in the vision and mission of the college are met and continued. It has institutionalized a number of quality measures in the academic and administrative sectors. Techno-centric and student-centric teaching-learning, Academic Audit, Feedback mechanism and Quality Circle activities involving the students and the staff are only some of the initiatives of the IQAC for bringing about quality initiatives in the institution.
On the basis of the recommendations of the IQAC, various measures have been taken by the College to improve teaching-learning over the years. Examples over trhe years are:
-
The provisioning of intranet and internet facilities pan Campus.
-
Signing of MoUs by every Department for closer collaboration with Industry and Research organizations
-
Introduction of interdisciplinary skill-based subjects for all programmes:
-
Quality Control Circles - to enable students to learn and apply analytical tools required to solve grassroots problems
-
General Knowledge - to equip students with general knowledge regarding various aspectes of the nation and the world, which would also be useful to them in competittive examinations and interviews.
-
Analytical Reasoning (in three levels) - to enable students to develop an ability in objective arithmetic and verbal reasoning which would stand them in good stead in competitive examinations and interviews, apart from in their subjects and in day-to-day life.
-
-
Academic Audits of Departments
The IQAC invites external experts to conduct Academic Audits of all Academic Departments and the Office of the Controller of Examinations, at least once in two years. A panel of external experts from academia and industry is constituted for every Department and care is taken to ensure that the panel members are not or have not been in the Board of Studies or Academic Council or any other committee related to the College. Care is also taken to constitute the panel for each Department with representation from institutes of national importance such as IIT Madras, Archaelogical Survey of India and Institute of Mathematical Sciences.
The panel members visit the respective Department, study the curriculum, examination-related material and records and interact with the Faculty members and students before they prepare a detailed audit report on their impressions and suggestions.
It is a matter of great pride for the College that every Department has received excellent audit reports from every Audit Committee till date. The suggestions of the Audit Committee are taken very seriously and efforts made to incorporate them after discussion in the appropriate forum.
