About

The Department of Commerce is the largest Department on Campus, and was founded in 1976, with the introduction of the B.Com. programme. The same programme was started in Shift II to meet the ever-increasing demand, in 1979. Simultaneously, M.Com. was also introduced in 1979 to cater to the demand for vertical mobility of students. B.Com. (Banking Management) was introduced in 1989, and B.Com. (Corporate Secretaryship) in 1998. The M.Phil. programme was started in 2013.

  • Students are trained intensively to enable them to take competitive examinations like CA and ICWA, and for employment.

  • Students of B.Com. (Banking Management) take up compulsory Internships and Projects in Nationalised Banks.

Recent Events

  • Student seminars were conducted for B.Com (General) - Shift I students on the topic "MSME - Micro,Small Medium Enterprises - Survive, Revive and Thrive" in March 2022. Shri. S. Suresh Babuji, Joint Director (Head of Office), MSME Development Institute, Chennai, Ministry of MSME, Government of India and Shri. Senthil Kumar, Deputy Director, MSME, jointly inaugurated the seminar.

  • Student seminars were conducted for B.Com. (Banking Management) students on the topic "New Dimension in Online Banking" in March 2022. Mrs T.C. Thara Devi, Branch Manager, Indian bank, Kodambakkam, was the Chief Guest.

  • Student seminars were conducted for B.Com. (Corporate Secretaryship) students on the topic "Indirect Taxes - Fundamentals and Foresights" on 18 March, 2022. Sri M. M Parthiban, IRS, Principal Commissioner, Customs, was the Chief Guest.

  • Student seminars were conducted for B.Com. (General) - Shift II students on the topic "Direct Taxes" on 19 March, 2022. Mrs Geetha Ravichandran IRS, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Tamilnadu & Puducherry) was the Chief Guest.
