Introduction
The department of
Mathematics was a part of the college right from its inception . The college started
functioning with P.U.C with a strength of 96 students comprising of
a batch of mathematics.
In the year 1976-77 B.Sc ., mathematics course was started with a strength of 75
students. The department was upgraded to the Post Graduate level in 1981 and was
elevated to the research level in 1988 with the introduction of M.Phil., course,
comprising of 4 full time students. So far, about
60 dissertations were submitted under the able guidance of the
faculty.A few of the dissertations were highly commended.
As an event of the World Math year 2000, an International Conference on ‘Analysis
and its applications’, was organized by the college and Forum d’ Analystes,Chennai
from December 6-9,2000.About 120 deligates from all over the world participated
and more than 60 papers were presented.
A two-day national level seminar in
Advanced Techniques and Applied Mathematicswas organized by
the department in September 2005. Several one-day seminars were organized periodically.
Among the extra curricular activities a project on
Rain Water Harvesting and
Yogakshemam - health club need special mention.
