At its inception, the college had P.U.C only with strength of 100 students during 1975-76, subsequently during 1976-77 B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com. courses were introduced. The college became a Post Graduate Institution with M.Com. Course from the Academic year 1979-80. M.C.A. course was introduced from the year 1986-87, M.Sc. Physics was introduced from the year 1987-88. M.Phil. course in Mathematics, History and Tamil were introduced from the year 1988-89. M.A. Public Administration was introduced from the year 1993. M.Sc. Bio-Chemistry was started in 1995 and B.A. Corporate Secretaryship in the year 1998-99. The college is recognized by the University for Research in Ph.D. in Tamil and Economics. The college was conferred Autonomy from 1999-2000. M.Sc. (IT) was introduced in 2004.
